New bike

Sólveig Lilja got a new bike today. She'd had a tricycle before but now she's got a bicycle. She loves it.

Sólveig Lilja

That's how Sólveig Lilja was last night when we went to sleep. Bob fixed her and less than a minute later she had kicked the duvet off of her. He fixed her again. When I checked on her she was sideways in bed and I fixed her again and went to bed.

Bathroom progress

The bathroom is not far from being finished now. The shower is up and has been up since Monday I think. The unit is up and that as well is old news. Now most of the tiles are up. They will return on Monday and my guess is that they will finish the tiling and maybe the grouting as well, if not they will finish that on Tuesday. Then we have to have the taps for the bath fitted and the radiator and floor heat regulator. And then the small things like curtains, towel hooks and stuff like that. It's going to look really good.

Bathroom update

This time there has been some progress. The bathtub has been fitted, the unit is up, the toilet has been boxed in and the only thing the builders haven't done yet is to box up the pipes in the toilet down stairs and close the ceiling in the laundry room. The plumber said he'd come tomorrow to finish the pipework under the sink and the tilers should be here today. It's finally starting to look like a bathroom again. And the landing is looking better, even if it still is a bloody mess! The space on each side of the closet up there is empty now for the first time in months and it is now possible to walk through the hobby room reasonably safely! It's been full of things for months and now finally it's starting to get less. I don't know if the tilers will finish before the weekend but I doubt it. But he promised to have it finished before Easter and he should be able to do that easy enough.

Over thirty again :)

Went to my weighing yesterday and finally made some progress :) Got rid of one kilo so I'm back over 30 kilos. Very, very good. Now I just have to keep it up so that I can get rid of these last 10 kilos or so before the summer.

Carpenters, builders or whatever!

In August when we had the electric general heating replaced and got geothermal heating. Then we started dreaming about a new bathroom and started preparing for that, making cost estimations and then buying stuff. New bathtub, sink, unit, toilet, shower, tiles and basically everything. Our intentions were to do most of this ourselves with Árni's help. Árni fittet the new toilet sometime in October or November or something. Then we got someone to cut the lines in the floor for the floor heating. Then a couple of plumbers came and fitted the heating. That was before Christmas. Then we realised that we would never have time or knowledge to do this ourselves and Árni is extremely busy so we decided to get professionals to do the work. First the tiler, he did the floor. Then he did a part of the walls and then the plumber came and fitted the shower. That was done on Monday. And the old bathtub removed. Yesterday the builders started fitting the unit, well, they did the mirror and what a bloody mess. Wish I'd taken a picture of it but now I guess it's too late because we had them fix it. It was so far from being level that it's just a joke. Their manager came over this morning to see how it was and instructed them to fix it. That's going to delay the whole thing which is not good for the tiler. He's been great. One hundred percent professional and he's also given us a certain amount of push so that the work has been done. The other buggers are the ones to worry about. I don't know if I can hope that they will finish today but I tend to be optimistic and I will keep on being like that.

Sisters going to sleep

The other nigth when I was going to read to the girls, they tucked themselves in in Sólveig Lilja's bed. Well, I may have helped them a bit. I have mentioned to Sólveig Lilja if she would like a new bedroom and share it with her sister and she seemed to quite like that idea. That's going to be our next project, after the bathroom is finished.

Bathroom progress

This is what the bathroom looks like right now - well, that half of it. The bathtub is still there and some of the old tiles but we've pulled most of them down. We are hoping that we will get the new tub, the shower and the unit fitted before Wednesday so that the tiler can come then and finish tiling - which will mean the tiling is finished. But our plumber is not the most reliable person we know :( I'm calling him later on today or tonight to make sure he will come first thing tomorrow. What has been done so far looks very good. I have bought lights for the unit and white high gloss paint for the ceiling since the walls and the floor are a bit dark and the unit is oak so I thought we needed something to brighten it up a bit.

A new tape

We made a tape for Mum on Monday night. It was only about half an hour long but it was fun. It was from Sólveig Lilja's dance show mostly and I'm sure Mum will like it. I know we had fun watching it, Sólveig Lilja danced along and Kristín Lára seemed to have a lot of fun as well.

I went to the weighing yesterday. Got rid of 300 grams this time which is better than putting some on! So that's a good thing.

The bathroom project is coming along well. The tilers finished grouting the half they had tiled and now our builder and plumber are drilling the hole for the shower drain. The plumber said he could come on Friday or Saturday to fit the shower. And the tiler will be back on Monday to continue with the tiling. Will it be finished by the end of the month I wonder? Looks like it and I sure hope it will.

Anniversary

On March 20th 2000 I wrote to Bob for the first time. Since then a lot of things have happened. We met, he moved over here, Sólveig Lilja came along, then Píla, then Kristín Lára, then Muggles. I am glad that I wrote that email seven years ago.

So proud

Jón Birgir was in Reykjavík this weekend attending the national championships in judo. He called me on Saturday afternoon and asked me to guess which place he had ended in. I quickly though "how optimistic should I be" and then said "you aren't national champion are you?" and he said "actually yes". My little nephew, not 12 years old yet, is national champion already!

We pulled down the sink and the unit yesterday. I have to admit that I quite liked doing that :) I'm better in destructing than constructing I think ;) We are expecting our tiler any moment now to start the tiling work. I can't wait. Now I just want to have it finished. He's going to be working for us for three days he said. Then I can have the hole for the drain made and the shower fitted, hopefully next week. Then the unit installed, hope we can do that ourselves. Then the toilet box and then replace the bathtub and then the rest of the tiles done. Hopefully it will all be done in about a month. When that is finished we are going to move the girls into the hobby room and the hobby room into Sólveig Lilja's room. I bet they are going to like sharing a room, those little buggers :)

We went to Sólveig Lilja's dance show in school on Wednesday. It was quite cool, she seemed to enjoy her a lot and it was fun to watch them. We all went there and taped most of the show. Which reminds me we were going to send a tape off to Mum today. Well, it's going to have to be done tomorrow, I haven't copied anything to tape yet. She's going to love seeing this I think :)

Not a good week

This was not a good week, weight-wise :( Put on a kilo. I knew it hadn't been a good week but this was a bit too much. Bob is not very happy and doesn't listen to any excuses. Which is good in a way :)

Our tiler is coming over tonight to pick up his money. And give us an estimation on how much it would cost to do the rest of the tiling. The plumber - who I thought was avoiding us or dead even - came over on Sunday night, bouncing of life as every time I've seen him before - and told us how he would do things. So we are doing things his way, after all he is the professional. We are both getting sick of this mess and want it over and done with and we both agree on that we want to have it done properly.

Sólveig Lilja is having her last dance lesson in school this morning and we are all going there to see her. She so loves dancing and it will be fun to see her.

I made some progress with school work last night. Bob kept me company and help me which was very nice.

Those kids

Sometimes they drive you crazy. They don't do as they're told, they answer back and do all sorts of things they are not supposed to do. You are exhausted at the end of the day. But then they do something or say something that just melt your heart. A while ago Sólveig Lilja said "þú ert best" (you are the best) after I'd been telling her off one morning when we were getting ready for school. And last night I was telling them that I love them (ég elska þig in Icelandic) and Sólveig Lilja said it back as she usually does and Kristín Lára first reached to me for a kiss and then she said "ég elska þig" pretty clearly. Tired or not, this was pretty amazing. They make it all worth while. They have a way of melting you and make you want to just take them and give them a huge hug.

They sure are worth it.

One hundred grams!

That's all. One hundred grams. But they went, didn't come so that's a plus. Now I have to add 5 grams of oil every day, hopefully that helps.

Sólveig Lilja and I walked to school this morning. She seemed to like it and so did I. The weather was good, the sky was very pretty, the clouds very colourful and the sunlight was just starting to show on the mountain tops. Very pretty.

Comfy?

Normally it's Kristín Lára who looks funny and cute when we go check on them before we go to sleep. But last night it was Sólveig Lilja. She looks so relaxed and comfy.
