Tests finished

I have finished both tests and now I just have to wait and see if I passed or if I have to resit them. I am not sure about either one of them, could have done better on both. But that's life.

Bob and I have been working on the box on the deck today. I've been waiting to do that for a long time but didn't want to start until school was over. We measured it out during the week thought and I ordered the wood yesterday and we picked it up today and started building the frame this afternoon. And tonight after the girls had gone to sleep, we continued and the frame is finished for the most part now. It looks pretty good - if I say so myself and I am really enjoying creating this. Not only will it give us some storage space but it will also clear up the mess that this hole in the corner has been since the deck was built. Now we won't have to take the tires to the farm for storage anymore and now we will have a nice box in the corner to either sit on or to put things on.

I had "sewing club" last night. We (the girls in work) started doing this last winter and quite often met every other week with our needlework or whatever. We met a few times before Christmas but this is the first time that we've met after Christmas. I had told them I'd invite them when the bathroom was finished. And they loved the bathroom - of course, it is fantastic.

Got rid of 600 grams this week. But I went lunchtime (before I ate) instead of in the afternoon. So what the real loss is I'm not sure of.

Bathroom almost finished

The bathroom is almost finished now. I've got some paint jobs to do (ceiling, window and door) but the cutains are there (need to take another picture nighttime to see them better), toilet roll holder and the towel hooks are up and towel radiator was put on on Thursday if I remember correctly. Looks pretty good, I think we both agree on that.

Crapper fittet - again

This is how the bathroom looks right now. Bob fitted the toilet yesterday while I tried to put the tap up. I gave up on that, it leaked :( But the toilet is up so we can use that now and I've put new film in the window. The other one looked really bad so we pulled that down - boy was that difficult! But we managed to do it and it looks better now. I checked RL ("the cheep store") for ready made curtains for the bathroom window but they didn't seem to have any so I gave up on that. I just want white, thin curtains to brighten the room up a bit.

We've been to the dump twice today already and to Nettó twice as well. I've vaccumed all floors and wasched most of them.

Good riddens

I went to the weekly weighing yesterday and it turned out that I have got rid of 1.1 kilo this week :) That's not bad at all and now I have 9.9 kilos to go if I go with my original plan of getting rid of 41.2 kilos. Finally I seem to be back on track after months of slow or no progress.

The bathroom is coming along pretty well except for the bloody plumber standing us up again :( Not the first time and probably not the last time either. The tilers will finish today and then we have the bath tap to put up (which we can do ourselves) the toilet bowl (which we can do ourselves as well - maybe with some help from Árni), and the towel rack which I don't think we can put up ourselves. But I will certainly try. And then we also have curtains to put up and paint the ceiling, window and door but I'll do that after the exams.

Bathroom progress

The bathroom is not far from being finished now. The shower is up and has been up since Monday I think. The unit is up and that as well is old news. Now most of the tiles are up. They will return on Monday and my guess is that they will finish the tiling and maybe the grouting as well, if not they will finish that on Tuesday. Then we have to have the taps for the bath fitted and the radiator and floor heat regulator. And then the small things like curtains, towel hooks and stuff like that. It's going to look really good.

Bathroom update

This time there has been some progress. The bathtub has been fitted, the unit is up, the toilet has been boxed in and the only thing the builders haven't done yet is to box up the pipes in the toilet down stairs and close the ceiling in the laundry room. The plumber said he'd come tomorrow to finish the pipework under the sink and the tilers should be here today. It's finally starting to look like a bathroom again. And the landing is looking better, even if it still is a bloody mess! The space on each side of the closet up there is empty now for the first time in months and it is now possible to walk through the hobby room reasonably safely! It's been full of things for months and now finally it's starting to get less. I don't know if the tilers will finish before the weekend but I doubt it. But he promised to have it finished before Easter and he should be able to do that easy enough.

Carpenters, builders or whatever!

In August when we had the electric general heating replaced and got geothermal heating. Then we started dreaming about a new bathroom and started preparing for that, making cost estimations and then buying stuff. New bathtub, sink, unit, toilet, shower, tiles and basically everything. Our intentions were to do most of this ourselves with Árni's help. Árni fittet the new toilet sometime in October or November or something. Then we got someone to cut the lines in the floor for the floor heating. Then a couple of plumbers came and fitted the heating. That was before Christmas. Then we realised that we would never have time or knowledge to do this ourselves and Árni is extremely busy so we decided to get professionals to do the work. First the tiler, he did the floor. Then he did a part of the walls and then the plumber came and fitted the shower. That was done on Monday. And the old bathtub removed. Yesterday the builders started fitting the unit, well, they did the mirror and what a bloody mess. Wish I'd taken a picture of it but now I guess it's too late because we had them fix it. It was so far from being level that it's just a joke. Their manager came over this morning to see how it was and instructed them to fix it. That's going to delay the whole thing which is not good for the tiler. He's been great. One hundred percent professional and he's also given us a certain amount of push so that the work has been done. The other buggers are the ones to worry about. I don't know if I can hope that they will finish today but I tend to be optimistic and I will keep on being like that.

Bathroom progress

This is what the bathroom looks like right now - well, that half of it. The bathtub is still there and some of the old tiles but we've pulled most of them down. We are hoping that we will get the new tub, the shower and the unit fitted before Wednesday so that the tiler can come then and finish tiling - which will mean the tiling is finished. But our plumber is not the most reliable person we know :( I'm calling him later on today or tonight to make sure he will come first thing tomorrow. What has been done so far looks very good. I have bought lights for the unit and white high gloss paint for the ceiling since the walls and the floor are a bit dark and the unit is oak so I thought we needed something to brighten it up a bit.

A new tape

We made a tape for Mum on Monday night. It was only about half an hour long but it was fun. It was from Sólveig Lilja's dance show mostly and I'm sure Mum will like it. I know we had fun watching it, Sólveig Lilja danced along and Kristín Lára seemed to have a lot of fun as well.

I went to the weighing yesterday. Got rid of 300 grams this time which is better than putting some on! So that's a good thing.

The bathroom project is coming along well. The tilers finished grouting the half they had tiled and now our builder and plumber are drilling the hole for the shower drain. The plumber said he could come on Friday or Saturday to fit the shower. And the tiler will be back on Monday to continue with the tiling. Will it be finished by the end of the month I wonder? Looks like it and I sure hope it will.

So proud

Jón Birgir was in Reykjavík this weekend attending the national championships in judo. He called me on Saturday afternoon and asked me to guess which place he had ended in. I quickly though "how optimistic should I be" and then said "you aren't national champion are you?" and he said "actually yes". My little nephew, not 12 years old yet, is national champion already!

We pulled down the sink and the unit yesterday. I have to admit that I quite liked doing that :) I'm better in destructing than constructing I think ;) We are expecting our tiler any moment now to start the tiling work. I can't wait. Now I just want to have it finished. He's going to be working for us for three days he said. Then I can have the hole for the drain made and the shower fitted, hopefully next week. Then the unit installed, hope we can do that ourselves. Then the toilet box and then replace the bathtub and then the rest of the tiles done. Hopefully it will all be done in about a month. When that is finished we are going to move the girls into the hobby room and the hobby room into Sólveig Lilja's room. I bet they are going to like sharing a room, those little buggers :)

We went to Sólveig Lilja's dance show in school on Wednesday. It was quite cool, she seemed to enjoy her a lot and it was fun to watch them. We all went there and taped most of the show. Which reminds me we were going to send a tape off to Mum today. Well, it's going to have to be done tomorrow, I haven't copied anything to tape yet. She's going to love seeing this I think :)

Not a good week

This was not a good week, weight-wise :( Put on a kilo. I knew it hadn't been a good week but this was a bit too much. Bob is not very happy and doesn't listen to any excuses. Which is good in a way :)

Our tiler is coming over tonight to pick up his money. And give us an estimation on how much it would cost to do the rest of the tiling. The plumber - who I thought was avoiding us or dead even - came over on Sunday night, bouncing of life as every time I've seen him before - and told us how he would do things. So we are doing things his way, after all he is the professional. We are both getting sick of this mess and want it over and done with and we both agree on that we want to have it done properly.

Sólveig Lilja is having her last dance lesson in school this morning and we are all going there to see her. She so loves dancing and it will be fun to see her.

I made some progress with school work last night. Bob kept me company and help me which was very nice.

Bathroom floor progress

After weeks, even months of thinking and talking about it, we decided not to tile the floor ourselves. We decided that it would be worth a few thousands to pay a professional to do this, the question was could we get a professional to do it. I knew that a colleague's ex husband is a tiler so I got his number from her and called him last Friday. It's Thursday now and look, the tiles are down and it looks fantastic! I just had to put this picture in, just in case anyone except Bob ever reads this.

Last day of Christmas

Today is "The Thirteenth", that is the thirteenth and last day of Christmas. The Yuletide Lads are thirteen, the first one comes 13 days before Christmas and the last one on Christmas Eve and then they start going back up to the mountains where they live and today the last of them leaves - or has left already. So tomorrow people start taking down their Christmas decorations. Actually many people have started that already. We haven't, I like those additional lights when it's dark outside, makes the days feel longer.

We all went out this morning, to Byko to get some stuff to fix the pipe holding our areal. A few weeks ago, when all the snow was melting down, it took the pipe with it, well, bent it and it's now hanging on one support only (were 3 before). We started replacing the supports but the drill ran out of power and Kristín Lára had to have her nap so we paused for a bit and will continue when she's awake again. Don't know how we are going to fix the bend in the pipe though. Sólveig Lilja isn't not feeling too good, she's had a couple of naps already, first she complained about being cold, then she was too warm. Now she is watching DVD and looks better.

School starts in a few days. How wonderful! I could do with a longer pause though. We also need to get on with our bathroom project. I'm the one dragging my feet. I need to empty out the bathroom unit so that we can pull it down. When that is done, we can finish the floor, level it and put the tiles down and then we need to tile the corner behind the shower cubicle, then fit that and then fit the new sink unit. Then it's the bathtub and then put the rest of the wall tiles up. Yes, we do have a lot of work still to be done but it's going to be so cool when it's all done.

Mess, mess, mess!

Horrible mess this new bathroom floor is causing. And we still have a lot of work to do before it stops being a mess. The plumber came yesterday and put down the pipes and today we covered them and the next step is to put down the tiles. And that is going to make a mess as well.

Still no grades, the math teacher sent us a message saying he will upload the grades on Monday.

Operation "Bathroom floor"

It's coming along ok, yesterday they sawed the lines in the floor so the next step is for the plumber to put down the pipes. And this is how it looks like right now.
